The Italian national edition of ActInSpace, the virtual hackathon dedicated to space that saw the active participation of 10 Teams, ended on November 14.
The winner of the national competition is the POLIMI SPACE team, composed of Enrico Mario Giovanardi, Marco Morgese, Giulio Pelenghi, Asuthosh Conda Ramesh and Davide Iafrate, thanks to its valid and innovative idea that contributes to the new era of lunar exploration. The project submitted, "MoonSweep", is part of the ISRU context and could also have interesting implications for the sustainable use of resources on land.
For everybody, the challenge was an opportunity to implement a range of skills and capabilities with the support of satellite technology. This is also true for the sponsors - I3P, the Italian Space Agency and Openet Technologies - who set up the initiative.
"Today, the market for terrestrial imaging and data processing is growing at an unprecedented rate," explained the winning team while outlining their project. "The very complex network of Earth and space resources allows us to see our planet in ever greater detail. For example, geographic, topological and geological information will be crucial in dealing with the harsh lunar environment. Our goal is to clearly collect, process and provide this information to our customers."
POLIMI SPACE team can access the international finals in Toulouse, France. Plenty of prizes are up for grabs for the winners of the final contest, including a parabolic flight aboard a Zero-G Airbus A310.
