SocialFare, the first center for social innovation in Italy, has launched the new edition of Planet Foundamentals, a call to accelerate social impact start-ups that can offer innovative solutions in response to the most pressing social challenges.
This edition, the focus is on Planetary Health: Innovating for a Regenerative and Inclusive Future, a systemic approach to tackling major global challenges and developing entrepreneurial solutions that integrate innovation, sustainability and inclusion.
The call for social impact start-ups
Planet Foundamentals selects and accelerates start-ups proposing innovative models to address emerging challenges in the following areas:
- Climate, sustainability, and resource management: solutions addressing climate change, environmental deterioration and the inefficient use of natural resources, promoting sustainable production and consumption models.
- Health and new prevention models: innovations in digital healthcare, prevention, longevity, and mental well-being, focusing on the environmental and social determinants of public health.
- Technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable innovation: digital and AI-based solutions to improve access to essential services, ensure transparency, and reduce inequalities.
- The future of work and new economic models: solutions for the training of new skills, impact finance, microcredit, inclusion at work and the establishment of regenerative and more resilient economies.
- Education and culture for transition: solutions that favour equal access to education, digital literacy, impact culture and a greater awareness on topics such as sustainability, health and technological innovation.
An investment opportunity
Selected startups will access a 4-month intensive acceleration track - held in Italian language - with a dedicated team of experts who will provide addressing topics such as business modeling, investment readiness and social impact assessment. The program will take place at Rinascimenti Sociali, in Turin, Italy, with a hybrid online/offline format.
Moreover, SocialFare Seed - SocialFare’s private seed investment vehicle - will invest up to €150,000 in equity for each selected start-up, also providing access to a network of 50+ impact investors and advisors.
The timeline of the call is:
- March 4, 2025 – Applications open
- May 4, 2025 – Application deadline
- July 10, 2025 – Selection Day
- September 29, 2025 – Program start
- January 30, 2026 – Social Impact Investor Day
Once again this year, Planet Foundamentals is supported by Invitalia, which provides support on startup financing, and NHOA, a global player in energy transition and sustainable mobility.
Since 2016, SocialFare has accelerated over 120 social impact start-ups, which collectively have raised more than €50 million in funding. More than 84% of startups invested by SocialFare Seed since 2017, have successfully raised additional capital after the acceleration program.
