Tyvak and WaterView: I3P rewards the Start-ups of the Year 2018

I3P Startup

Two start-ups awarded by I3P Politecnico di Torino Incubator as 'Start-ups of the Year' during the Festa delle Startup 2018

Two start-ups from Politecnico di Torino's Incubator are tied for the "Start-ups of the Year" during the Festa delle Startup 2018. They are Tyvak, a leader in the innovation and production of pico-satellites, cubesats, and nano-satellites, and WaterView, specialising in the design of intelligent systems for monitoring atmospheric phenomena and environmental parameters.

Tyvak - Founded in 2015 as the third operating group of US-based Terran Orbital Corporation, Tyvak is the company's first international operation, recognised as a leader in the innovation and realisation of pico-satellites, cubesats, and nano-satellites . The company is dedicated to offering complete, "ready-to-fly" nano-satellite solutions as products directly available on the market, drastically reducing production time and mission costs. Tyvak provides scientific and operational support for universities, business enterprises and government agencies in strategically important missions.

WaterView - Founded in 2015 by Paola Allamano, Paolo Cavagnero and Alberto Croci, develops services for the collection and analysis of Big Data in the meteorological field and specialises in the design of intelligent systems for monitoring atmospheric phenomena and environmental parameters. In particular, the company has developed a new technique that measures the intensity of rainfall, starting from the distinctive light streaks left by water drops in films and photographs, which can come from standard cameras, network cameras, webcams or smartphones. Through a wide range of compatible devices and its own processing algorithms, this solution can be applied in numerous sectors: from civil protection operators to traffic management and control; from weather service providers to agricultural associations. In 2018, the company entered into a partnership with Terna to exploit the technology combined with the energy company's widespread infrastructure throughout Italy.

The award was presented during the annual "Festa delle Startup" event, which was an opportunity to present case histories, innovative products and services of new start-ups and to launch start-ups that have "graduated" and are ready to face the market, having successfully completed three years of entrepreneurial growth at I3P.
